Novigrad/Istria

Novigrad is a small coastal town in Istria, Croatia, situated at the mouth of the River Mirna on the Adriatic. Its historic centre, built on a former peninsula, retains sections of medieval town walls and defensive towers reflecting its Venetian past, when the town was known as Cittanova. The parish church of St Pelagius and St Maximus, along with the Lapidarium displaying local archaeological finds, are among the notable sights in the old town. The harbour, still used by fishing boats, is lined with a pleasant promenade well suited to evening walks. The surrounding region, known for its truffles, olive oil and wines, supports a food scene centred on Istrian produce and fish specialities. Nearby, the Mareda area offers partly developed beaches set among pine woods, reachable on foot or by bicycle from the town centre. Novigrad lies within easy reach of Poreč and Umag, two other well-known resorts on the Istrian coast, making it a convenient base for exploring the region's mild Mediterranean climate.
