Fažana/Peroj

Fažana and Peroj are two coastal settlements in Istria, Croatia, located a few kilometres north of Pula. Fažana is best known as the departure point for boat trips to the Brijuni Islands, now a national park, making it a popular base for day excursions. The village retains a small traditional fishing harbour and typical Istrian architecture, with pale stone houses and narrow lanes leading down to the Adriatic. Fishing, particularly for sardines, was historically an important local industry. Nearby Peroj is notable for its Orthodox community, established since the 17th century and reflected in a local church, as well as for its olive groves, which contribute to Istria's well-regarded olive oil production. The surrounding area enjoys a Mediterranean climate, rocky beaches and coastal paths suited to swimming and walking. The proximity of Pula, with its Roman heritage, also allows for easy cultural day trips from either Fažana or Peroj, making the area a practical base for combining seaside relaxation with historical sightseeing in this part of Istria.
