Crikvenica

Crikvenica is a coastal resort town in Croatia, located in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar county on the shores of the Kvarner Bay, along the Adriatic Sea. Part of the historic Vinodol Riviera region, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers. Its seafront promenade, lined with pines and palm trees, runs alongside pebble beaches and a few sandy stretches popular for swimming and water sports. The old town retains traces of its past, including a medieval castle linked to the Frankopan family and the remains of a former Franciscan monastery. Crikvenica developed as a holiday destination from the late 19th century onwards, initially valued for its sea air, thought to be beneficial to health. Today, the town offers a lively promenade during the summer season, seafood restaurants, local markets, and easy access to neighbouring coastal towns such as Selce and Novi Vinodolski. Its proximity to Rijeka, around 30 kilometres away, makes it a convenient base for exploring the wider Kvarner region and nearby islands such as Krk and Rab, both reachable by boat.
