Senj

Senj is a small coastal town on Croatia's Adriatic shore, tucked between the Velebit mountain range and the sea in the Lika-Senj region. Known for the bora, a strong cold wind sweeping down from the mountains, it retains an authentic, low-key character quite different from busier resort towns such as Split. Nehaj Fortress, perched on a hill above the town, recalls its defensive past against Ottoman and Venetian incursions, and offers views over the bay and the nearby islands of Krk and Rab. The harbour provides convenient ferry links to these islands, while the old town's narrow stone streets are well suited to a leisurely wander. Nature lovers will find Northern Velebit National Park just a short drive away, ideal for hiking. As for dining, the restaurant Kod Moke stands out for its warm welcome and carefully prepared dishes, making it a good choice for sampling local flavours in a relaxed, unpretentious setting.
