Vir

Vir is an island in Zadar County, in northern Dalmatia, linked to the mainland by a bridge since the 1970s, making it easily accessible from Zadar and Nin, both just a few kilometres away. The island is known for its numerous sandy and pebble beaches, including Sabuša, one of the longest stretches of coastline in Croatia, and Lozica beach, shaded by pine trees. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes it ideal for swimming, windsurfing and diving. Vir has developed infrastructure geared towards outdoor tourism, with several campsites and holiday complexes along the coast. The main village retains a traditional character, with stone houses and a small fishing harbour. Nearby, visitors can take boat or car excursions to the island of Pag or the Kornati and Paklenica national parks, both reachable from Zadar. Vir remains a family-friendly destination, favouring nature, the sea and a relaxed pace of life, away from the busier resorts found elsewhere on the coast.
