Nin

Nin is a small historic town on the Adriatic coast, located a few kilometres north of Zadar in the Dalmatia region. Regarded as one of the earliest seats of Croatian royalty, it sits on a small islet linked to the mainland by stone bridges, where ancient remains can still be seen alongside the Church of the Holy Cross, often cited as one of the smallest cathedrals in the world. Nin is also known for its traditional saltworks, still in operation today, producing artisanal sea salt, as well as for the therapeutic mud (peloid) gathered from the lagoon, long valued for its healing properties. Nearby, long stretches of fine sandy, shallow-water beaches make the area particularly suitable for families with children, while the shallow bay is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, notably at the beach known as Queen's Beach. The surrounding region retains an authentic character, with a modest yet historically rich old town set among preserved natural areas such as salt marshes and the lagoon. Nin offers a peaceful base for exploring northern Dalmatia, combining ancient heritage, traditional craftsmanship and coastal nature, close to the major attractions of Zadar.
