Sequals

Sequals is a small municipality in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the province of Pordenone, set at the foot of the Carnic Prealps. The village is known for its centuries-old tradition of mosaic craftsmanship and terrazzo work, a skill that brought the area renown well beyond Italy, closely linked to nearby Spilimbergo, home to a well-regarded mosaic school. Sequals is also home to the cemetery where the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, a native of the town, is buried in a tomb he designed himself. The surrounding landscape of rolling hills and vineyards falls within the Friuli Grave DOC wine-producing area, making it a pleasant setting for walking or cycling through the Friulian countryside. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cooler winters typical of this part of north-eastern Italy. The town makes a quiet base for exploring the historic villages of western Friuli, combining traditional craftsmanship, local gastronomy and unspoilt rural scenery, away from the busier tourist spots of the wider region.
