Santa Cristina

Santa Cristina Valgardena is a mountain village in South Tyrol, nestled in the Dolomites within Val Gardena, between Ortisei and Selva di Val Gardena. Sitting at roughly 1,428 metres above sea level, it lies beneath the striking peaks of the Sassolungo and Sella massifs, both part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is home to a Ladin-speaking community, whose language and traditions remain part of everyday local life. Santa Cristina serves as a convenient base for skiing, forming part of the Dolomiti Superski network and the famous Sella Ronda circuit, as well as for summer walking routes into the Vallunga valley or up to the nearby Alpe di Siusi plateau. The adjoining Puez-Odle Nature Park offers well-known hiking trails for those exploring further afield. The local economy is closely tied to mountain tourism, with traditional guesthouses and South Tyrolean cuisine on offer, including regional specialities such as canederli dumplings and local cured meats. The alpine climate brings snowy winters ideal for winter sports and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits.
