Villandro Villanders

Villanders (Villandro) is a village in South Tyrol, in the province of Bolzano, set on a sunny plateau above the Isarco Valley, between Chiusa and Bressanone. This elevated setting, surrounded by forests and meadows, makes it a popular starting point for reaching the Villanderer Alm, one of the largest alpine pastures in Europe, accessible by cable car and well suited to summer walking as well as cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in winter. The village centre retains typical Tyrolean architecture, with houses featuring colourful shutters and a parish church. The area, shaped by a blend of German-speaking and Italian culture, offers local cuisine rooted in alpine tradition: speck, mountain cheeses and South Tyrolean white wines are among the characteristic products of the surrounding region. The mountain climate brings mild summers and snowy winters, supporting year-round outdoor activities. The surrounding landscape, combining terraced vineyards in the valley with high alpine pastures, allows visitors to combine hiking, wine discovery and relaxation in a quiet setting, away from the busier tourist resorts elsewhere in South Tyrol.
