Bormio

Bormio is a small mountain town in Lombardy, in the upper Valtellina valley, at the foot of the Ortles-Cevedale massif and close to the Stelvio Pass, one of the highest in Europe. Its historic centre retains cobbled lanes, old houses and medieval towers reflecting its past as a trading town on a busy alpine route. The town is well known for its thermal springs, used since Roman times, and several spa establishments now offer treatments using these naturally hot waters. Bormio is also a recognised winter sports resort, with a ski area that has hosted international alpine skiing competitions and features technical slopes suited to experienced skiers. In summer, the region draws hiking and cycling enthusiasts, particularly for the climb up the Stelvio Pass, a legendary stage in mountain cycling. Local cuisine highlights Valtellina specialities such as pizzoccheri, bresaola and mountain cheeses. The alpine climate brings cold, snowy winters and cool summers, making outdoor activities possible throughout the year.
