Bellagio

Bellagio sits at the tip of the promontory dividing the two branches of Lake Como, in Lombardy, earning it the nickname 'Pearl of Lake Como'. The village is known for its steep, cobbled lanes, such as Salita Serbelloni, lined with shops selling silk goods and local crafts, a legacy of the area's historic textile trade. The gardens of Villa Serbelloni, set on the headland, and those of Villa Melzi d'Eril, open to visitors in season, offer views over the lake and surrounding peaks such as the Grigne mountains. The lakeside promenade, with its cafés and restaurants, serves as a departure point for ferry connections to Menaggio, Varenna and other lakeside towns, run by the local navigation company. The lake's moderating effect on the climate supports Mediterranean-style vegetation, including cypress and laurel trees within the parks. Bellagio remains a popular stopping point for exploring the historic villa architecture and enjoying the atmosphere of a traditional lakeside village, though the town centre itself holds no major standalone monuments.
