Mid Skye

Mid Skye refers to the central and south-eastern part of the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands, including the Sleat peninsula, often nicknamed the 'Garden of Skye' for its relatively sheltered, greener landscape compared to the rest of the island. The village of Isleornsay, with its small harbour and lighthouse, offers views across to the mainland and the remote Knoydart peninsula. Nearby, Armadale Castle Gardens features landscaped grounds and a centre dedicated to the history of Clan Donald, while Torabhaig Distillery, set in a former farmstead beside Loch na Dal, has been producing Scotch whisky for several years. Armadale harbour provides a ferry link to Mallaig on the mainland. The area is well suited to coastal walking and wildlife spotting, with chances to see seals, otters and eagles, alongside distant views of the Cuillin mountains. The climate is typically oceanic, damp and changeable, with moorland scenery, traditional crofting smallholdings and a scattered settlement pattern. It remains a quiet region, valued more for its nature and authentic Scottish landscapes than for any lively atmosphere.
