Oban

Oban is a coastal town on Scotland's west coast, in Argyll and Bute, often described as the gateway to the Inner Hebrides. Its harbour serves as the departure point for CalMac ferries to islands such as Mull, Iona, Colonsay and Barra, making it a convenient base for exploring the archipelago. The town is overlooked by McCaig's Tower, an unfinished circular structure built in the late 19th century, which offers views across the bay and the island of Kerrera. Oban is also home to one of Scotland's oldest whisky distilleries, still operating in the town centre and open to visitors. The seafront, lined with shops and stalls selling crab, scallops and other locally caught seafood, reflects the area's maritime tradition. The railway station, the terminus of the scenic West Highland Line, connects the town to Glasgow. The climate is temperate and oceanic, with frequent rainfall throughout the year. Oban is a popular starting point for walking, wildlife watching and day trips to nearby castles and natural sites, including Dunollie Castle just outside the town.
