South Skye

South Skye, within the IV47 postcode area, covers the north-western part of the Isle of Skye, centred around Dunvegan and the Glendale peninsula. The area is dominated by Dunvegan Castle, the historic seat of Clan MacLeod and one of the oldest continuously inhabited castles in Scotland, set within gardens overlooking Loch Dunvegan. Further west, the Glendale peninsula features traditional crofting landscapes and leads to Neist Point Lighthouse, an iconic site perched on dramatic cliffs facing the Atlantic Ocean. Talisker Distillery, located in Carbost, also falls within this area and offers tours showcasing Scotch whisky production. Nearby, coral sand beaches near Dunvegan are known for their turquoise waters contrasting with the mountainous backdrop. The region experiences a typically oceanic, damp and changeable climate. Sparsely populated, with small rural communities, the area is well suited to walking, coastal wildlife watching, and enjoying views towards the Cuillin mountains from various vantage points across the peninsula.
