St Georges de Didonne

Saint-Georges-de-Didonne is a seaside resort in the Charente-Maritime department, on the Gironde estuary, just a few kilometres from Royan. The town is known for its long sandy beach, the Grande Conche, lined with a promenade and backed by a pine forest that provides welcome shade in summer. To the south, the Suzac cliffs form a protected natural area, popular for coastal walks with views out to sea and towards the Cordouan lighthouse, visible offshore on a clear day. The harbour and small town centre retain the charm typical of resorts along this stretch of coast, with shops, restaurants and local markets. Its proximity to Royan gives easy access to larger amenities, while Saint-Georges itself keeps a quieter, family-friendly atmosphere. With a mild oceanic climate and numerous campsites and holiday residences, it's a popular destination in summer for beach activities, swimming and cycling along the shoreline. The wider region is also known for its oyster-farming tradition, with tastings available nearby.
