Asti

Asti, in Piedmont, is a historic town well known for its wines, particularly Barbera d'Asti and Asti Spumante, produced in the surrounding vineyards of Monferrato. The old town retains several medieval towers, remnants of the power once held by local noble families, along with Asti Cathedral, a fine example of Piedmontese Gothic architecture. The Collegiata di San Secondo, dedicated to the town's patron saint, overlooks Piazza San Secondo, where the Palio di Asti takes place every September—a horse race with roots going back to medieval times.
