Sampeyre

Sampeyre is a mountain village located in the Varaita Valley, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, within the Cottian Alps. This mid-to-high altitude area offers an unspoilt natural setting, well suited to summer hiking and winter sports, with several trails leading towards alpine passes and surrounding peaks. The village is particularly known for the Baìo, a longstanding traditional folk event that brings the local community together around costumed figures and ancestral rites linked to the valley's history. Local architecture retains typical features of Piedmontese alpine dwellings, with hamlets scattered across the valley slopes. The local cuisine reflects the mountain traditions of Piedmont, featuring dairy products, cured meats and simple dishes suited to the region's harsh climate.
