Alassio

Alassio is a seaside resort in Liguria, on the Riviera delle Palme, within the province of Savona. It is notable for its long sandy beach stretching several kilometres, a rarity along a coastline that is otherwise predominantly rocky, making it a popular choice for family seaside holidays. The old town retains a network of narrow lanes known as caruggi, along with the Budello, a lively pedestrian street lined with shops and cafés. Alassio is also known for the Muretto, a wall decorated with ceramic tiles signed by artists, writers and other notable figures who visited the town during the twentieth century. The resort has long-standing historical ties to the British community, who frequented it from the late nineteenth century onwards, leaving behind a cosmopolitan character still noticeable today. The palm-lined seafront promenade is ideal for strolling, while nearby coastal paths lead towards Capo Mele and its lighthouse. Local cuisine showcases classic Ligurian dishes such as pesto, focaccia and seafood specialities. A mild Mediterranean climate throughout the year adds to the town's appeal as a holiday destination.
