Camogli

Camogli is a fishing village on the Riviera di Levante in Liguria, close to Portofino and the regional nature park of the same name. The town is known for its brightly coloured, often trompe-l'œil façades lining the seafront and the still-active harbour where small fishing boats are moored. A pebble beach runs alongside the village, overlooked by the Dragonara Castle and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, whose bell tower is visible from the sea. Camogli also serves as a starting point for reaching, on foot or by boat, the Abbey of San Fruttuoso, tucked into a cove within the Portofino park, as well as other nearby inlets along the Ligurian coast. The town has long been associated with fishing, an activity still evident in the daily life of the harbour, and with simple local fare based on fish and focaccia. Each May, the Sagra del Pesce takes place, a popular festival centred on fish fried in a large pan set up on the quayside. The Mediterranean climate and the natural setting of the Golfo Paradiso make it a well-regarded stop along the Ligurian coast.
