Santa Margherita Ligure

Santa Margherita Ligure is a seaside resort on the Ligurian coast, located on the Portofino peninsula in the province of Genoa. Its harbour shelters fishing boats and pleasure craft, lined by a colourful seafront typical of villages in the area. The town often serves as a starting point for reaching Portofino, accessible on foot via a coastal path or by boat, as well as the Portofino regional nature park, well suited to walking with views over the Mediterranean. The historic centre retains palazzi with trompe-l'oeil painted façades, along with the Basilica di Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, noted for its baroque interior. The seafront promenade and beaches, some public and others run by private establishments, are among the main draws. Local cuisine focuses on seafood and Ligurian specialities such as basil pesto and focaccia. The Mediterranean climate brings warm, dry summers well suited to water-based activities, while winters remain mild. Its proximity to Rapallo, Camogli and the Cinque Terre makes it a convenient base for exploring the wider region.
