Vaugines

Vaugines is a small village in the Luberon area of the Vaucluse department, nestled between Cucuron and Lourmarin. Its historic centre features a plane tree-shaded square, a fountain and a Romanesque church, all typical of traditional Provençal architecture. The village gained some recognition through cinema, having served, alongside neighbouring Cucuron, as a filming location for Claude Berri's films “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources” in the 1980s. The surroundings remain rural and tranquil, set among vineyards, olive groves and lavender fields characteristic of the Luberon region. Vaugines' location makes it a convenient base for exploring the area's hilltop villages, such as Lourmarin and Ansouis, as well as for walking or cycling along the trails of the Luberon massif. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, allows for outdoor activities for much of the year. The local Provençal market and regional produce, including olive oil and Côtes du Luberon wine, add to the authentic character of this village, which has largely avoided mass tourism.
