Lambesc

Lambesc is a small town in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, within the Pays d'Aix area, around twenty kilometres from Aix-en-Provence, nestled between the Luberon and Alpilles ranges. The village retains a traditional Provençal old town, with its fountains, narrow streets and plane-tree-lined boulevards. Lambesc is historically notable as the epicentre of the earthquake of 11 June 1909, the most significant tremor recorded in mainland France during the twentieth century, an event that left a lasting mark on the area. The surrounding countryside is typical of Provence, with vineyards producing Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence wine and olive groves dotting the landscape. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes outdoor activities possible for much of the year. Its central location makes it a convenient base for exploring Aix-en-Provence, the Luberon, the Alpilles or Salon-de-Provence, while offering a quieter, human-scale setting typical of the villages found throughout the Pays d'Aix.
