Nyons

Nyons is a town in the Drôme provençale area of south-eastern France, well known for its olive oil, which holds a protected designation of origin. The town enjoys a particularly mild microclimate, often likened to that of neighbouring Provence, which has supported olive growing since ancient times. The old town, with its narrow lanes and historic houses, leads to a 13th-century Romanesque bridge spanning the Eygues river, as well as the Randonne Tower, a remnant of the former town walls. The Olive Museum offers insight into the history and traditional methods of local olive oil production. The lively Thursday morning market showcases regional produce, olive oil, tapenade and other Provençal specialities. The surrounding countryside, with its rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards, is ideal for walking and cycling. The area is also known for its local producers and olive oil cooperatives, some of which welcome visitors.
