Velleron

Velleron is a village in the Vaucluse department, located in the Comtat Venaissin area, close to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Carpentras. It is particularly known for its producers' market, established in 1974 and considered one of the oldest of its kind in France, where local growers sell fruit, vegetables and other regional produce directly to customers. The village retains an authentic Provençal character, with narrow streets and the typical village atmosphere found throughout the Vaucluse. The surrounding area is marked by intensive fruit and vegetable farming, supported by the Mediterranean climate and irrigation from the nearby Sorgue river. Velleron makes a convenient base for exploring neighbouring villages in the Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse, as well as traditional regional markets, including the well-known antiques market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The surrounding countryside also offers vineyards and, depending on the season, lavender fields. Set within a well-preserved rural area, the village provides a peaceful setting while remaining close to the main tourist sites of the Vaucluse and the major roads linking Avignon to Carpentras.
