Montcuq

Montcuq is a hilltop village in the Lot department, located in the Quercy Blanc area between Cahors and Montauban. It is dominated by its 12th-century medieval keep, the remains of a former fortified castle, which offers sweeping views over the surrounding hills and valleys dotted with vineyards, orchards and sunflower fields. The village centre retains a typical Quercy character, with narrow lanes, honey-coloured stone houses and a traditional covered market hall still hosting a local market. The wider area, known as Quercy Blanc for its pale limestone landscape, is well suited to walking and cycling, with numerous paths connecting nearby villages. Montcuq enjoys a mild climate, with warm, dry summers and relatively gentle winters typical of south-west France. The surrounding countryside also provides opportunities to sample regional specialities, including foie gras, walnuts and Cahors wine, all set against a peaceful rural backdrop ideal for slow travel and exploring local heritage. It remains a quiet, authentic base for discovering this part of the Lot.
