Fuengirola

Fuengirola is a seaside resort on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Málaga, Andalusia. It is known for its long sandy beach, stretching around eight kilometres, lined by a lively seafront promenade ideal for walking or relaxing at a café terrace. Sohail Castle, a fortress of Moorish origin overlooking the mouth of the Fuengirola river, is one of the town's historic landmarks and occasionally hosts open-air concerts during the summer months. Bioparc Fuengirola, a zoo set within landscaped surroundings, is a popular family attraction. The fishing port and the weekly Tuesday market reflect a local economy that retains some traditional activity alongside tourism. The town benefits from a direct commuter rail link (Cercanías) to Málaga, making day trips to the city or airport straightforward. Nearby, the whitewashed hillside village of Mijas offers a contrasting inland excursion. The Mediterranean climate, mild in winter and warm in summer, has drawn a substantial community of foreign residents, particularly from Nordic countries. Tapas restaurants, bars and shops cluster around the seafront and the old town centre.
