Beaulieu sur Dordogne

Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is a village in the Corrèze department, recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in France, set on the banks of the Dordogne River. Its historic centre retains architecture typical of the Limousin region, with stone houses topped with slate or lauze roofs, and narrow lanes ideal for strolling. The Romanesque abbey church of Saint-Pierre is notable for its 12th-century carved tympanum, considered one of the finest examples of religious heritage in the area. The Chapelle des Pénitents adds to this architectural ensemble. The Dordogne River, which runs through the village, allows for traditional gabare boat trips, a historic vessel once used to transport goods. The surrounding countryside offers walking trails along the river's meanders, notably towards the Cingle de Montfort, a well-known viewpoint over the valley. The region is also known for its Corrèze gastronomy, including walnuts, chestnuts and local cheeses.
