Rindö

Rindö is an island in the Stockholm archipelago, part of Vaxholm municipality in Stockholm County. Reached by ferry from Vaxholm, it is notable for its military heritage: the Oscar-Fredriksborg fortress, built in the 19th century to defend the approach to Stockholm, occupies part of the island and reflects its strategic past. Long closed off as a military zone, Rindö has gradually opened up and now features residential areas and holiday homes set among landscapes typical of the archipelago, including pine forests, glacier-smoothed rocks and small coves. The island offers a peaceful setting, popular for walking, cycling and water-based activities such as kayaking and sailing, thanks to its central position within the Stockholm archipelago. The nearby town of Vaxholm, just a short boat ride away, provides shops, restaurants and the atmosphere of a small harbour town, while Rindö itself retains a more natural and unspoilt character. The climate is typical of eastern Sweden, with mild, bright summers well suited to outdoor stays and cold, snowy winters.
