Loctudy

Loctudy is a coastal town in the Bigouden area of Finistère, Brittany, set at the mouth of the Pont-l'Abbé river. Life here revolves around its fishing port, one of the busiest in Brittany for langoustine, and the town also has a notable 12th-century Romanesque church. The coastal footpath (GR34) runs along the headland and links several sheltered beaches, popular for swimming and views over the estuary. Just across the water, Île-Tudy is easily reached by a small passenger ferry for around 2 euros each way—a short crossing that feels wonderfully removed from the mainland, thanks to the island's peaceful lanes of fishermen's cottages. A little further along the coast, the restaurant La Chaumière in Combrit is worth the trip: located right next to the beach, it serves carefully prepared food in a relaxed setting. Between watersports, a local market and maritime heritage to explore, Loctudy offers a genuine taste of Bigouden life, away from the busier resorts nearby.
