Le Pouldu

Le Pouldu is a seaside resort in southern Finistère, part of the commune of Clohars-Carnoët, set at the mouth of the Laïta river facing the Atlantic Ocean. This coastal spot is known for its artistic heritage: in the late 19th century, Paul Gauguin, Paul Sérusier and other painters of the Pont-Aven school stayed at a local inn, the Maison Marie-Henry, which has since been reconstructed and opened to visitors. The village is built around several sandy beaches, including Grands Sables and Kérou, popular for swimming and watersports such as surfing and sand yachting. The small harbour of Bas-Pouldu, on the estuary, supports both fishing and leisure boating. The surrounding area offers coastal footpaths for walking, notably towards the Clohars-Carnoët forest and Kerbihan woods. The region enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, well suited to summer holidays. Le Pouldu makes a convenient base for exploring Cornouaille and nearby towns such as Pont-Aven and Quimperlé.
