La Turballe

La Turballe is a coastal town in the Loire-Atlantique department, located on the Guérande peninsula between Le Croisic and La Baule. It is home to one of the main fishing ports on the French Atlantic coast, historically known for sardine fishing, with an active fish auction that remains part of daily local life. The town offers several sandy beaches suited to swimming and watersports, along with a coastal footpath running along the shoreline. Nearby lie the Guérande salt marshes, where salt is still harvested using traditional methods, and the fortified medieval town of Guérande, just a short drive away. The Grand Blockhaus, a former German command post now converted into a museum on the Second World War and the Atlantic Wall, is also located within La Turballe. The area enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with mild summers and relatively gentle winters, making it suitable for visits throughout the year.
