Montaione

Montaione is a small medieval town in Tuscany, located in the Valdelsa area between Florence, Pisa and Siena, set amid rolling hills covered with olive groves and vineyards. The village retains traces of its old fortifications and has the typical character of a Tuscan hilltop town, with narrow lanes and views over the surrounding countryside. Nearby lies the hamlet of San Vivaldo, known for its Franciscan sanctuary housing the so-called 'New Jerusalem', a series of 16th-century terracotta chapels depicting the holy sites of Jerusalem, created by artisans linked to the della Robbia school. The municipal area also includes Castelfalfi, a former agricultural hamlet restored into a resort with a golf course, now a notable tourist hub in the region. Montaione is also known for its white truffle production, celebrated with an autumn fair. The surrounding countryside is well suited to agritourism, countryside walks, and day trips to nearby towns such as San Gimignano, Volterra and Certaldo, all easily reached by car.
