Campiglia Marittima

Campiglia Marittima is a medieval hilltop village in the province of Livorno, Tuscany, set within the Val di Cornia and close to the Etruscan Coast (Costa degli Etruschi). Its historic centre retains a typically medieval layout, with cobbled lanes, archways and remnants of fortifications, including the Rocca that overlooks the surrounding countryside. From the village's elevated position, views stretch out towards the Tyrrhenian Sea and, on clear days, as far as the island of Elba. The town has a long-standing mining heritage dating back to Etruscan times, reflected in the nearby San Silvestro Archaeological and Mining Park. The surrounding countryside is characterised by rolling hills planted with vineyards and olive groves, falling within the Val di Cornia DOC wine region. The nearby coastline, with towns such as San Vincenzo and Piombino, offers beaches and ferry connections to Elba. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes the area well suited to outdoor pursuits, countryside walks and exploring the rural and historical character of this part of Tuscany.
