Cinigiano

Cinigiano is a small municipality in the province of Grosseto, in southern Tuscany, set among the rolling hills of the Maremma between Monte Amiata and the Ombrone valley. The local area, which includes several hamlets such as Porrona and Sasso d'Ombrone, is characterised by the typical undulating Tuscan landscape of vineyards, olive groves and woodland. The territory falls within the Montecucco DOC wine region, a Tuscan appellation less well known than neighbouring Chianti or Montalcino but well regarded among wine enthusiasts. The medieval village centre of Cinigiano retains features of its historical past, with the compact layout typical of Tuscan hilltop settlements. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and cycling, offering open views towards Monte Amiata and the wider rural landscape. Its location also makes it a convenient base for exploring more renowned Tuscan destinations such as Montalcino, Pienza and the Val d'Orcia, while still enjoying a quieter, less touristy rural setting. The Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, makes spring and autumn particularly pleasant times to visit.
