San Benedetto del Tronto

San Benedetto del Tronto, nicknamed the 'Riviera delle Palme', is a seaside resort in the Marche region, on Italy's Adriatic coast, within the province of Ascoli Piceno. The town takes its name from the thousands of palm trees lining the seafront, forming a long shaded promenade popular for walking and cycling. The fine sandy beach stretches for several kilometres and is lined with numerous beach clubs offering full family facilities. San Benedetto remains an active fishing port, which explains the prominence of local seafood cuisine, particularly brodetto alla sambenedettese, a traditional fish soup typical of the area. The Museo Ittico, dedicated to maritime life, adds a cultural dimension beyond the beach. The historic centre, known as Paese Alto, sits slightly inland on higher ground and retains an older character with narrow streets, contrasting with the more modern seafront. The town also serves as a convenient base for visiting Ascoli Piceno further inland, as well as other coastal towns along the Marche shoreline.
