Casalbordino

Casalbordino is a small town in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo, split between a historic hilltop centre and a coastal area, Marina di Casalbordino, which faces the Adriatic Sea along the so-called Costa dei Trabocchi. This seaside stretch offers long sandy beaches backed by pine woods, popular for swimming and summer walks. The town is also known for the Sanctuary of the Madonna dello Splendore, a significant Marian pilgrimage site that draws visitors throughout the year, particularly during the summer celebrations. Inland, the rolling countryside is covered with vineyards and olive groves typical of Abruzzo, producing Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano wines as well as local olive oil. The climate is Mediterranean, tempered by the sea, with warm, sunny summers well suited to seaside holidays. Casalbordino therefore makes a good base for combining beach time with a look at local religious heritage and the agricultural flavours of Abruzzo, in a setting that has largely avoided mass tourism.
