Pollença

Pollença is a small town in the north of Mallorca, set against the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, just a short drive from the coast and Port de Pollença. Its historic centre is marked by an arcaded main square hosting a traditional Sunday market, and by the Calvari steps, 365 cypress-lined steps leading up to a chapel with views over terracotta rooftops and surrounding hills. A Roman bridge at the edge of town points to its long history. Nearby, well-known walking routes include the Boquer Valley, along with access to the Formentor peninsula and its beaches. The surrounding countryside produces almonds and olive oil, grown on terraced land typical of the Mallorcan landscape. The town hosts a classical music festival held in the cloister of the Sant Domingo convent, as well as August festivities commemorating a historic defence against a pirate raid. Pollença retains an authentic, less touristy character compared with other coastal towns on the island, while remaining well connected to the beaches of northern Mallorca.
