Tías

Tías is a municipality in southern Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, which includes Puerto del Carmen, the island's main seaside resort. The area offers several kilometres of fine sandy beaches, such as Playa Grande and Playa de los Pocillos, lined by a long seafront promenade dotted with restaurants, bars and shops. The climate is dry and mild all year round, typical of the Canaries, with near-constant sunshine that favours outdoor pursuits such as diving, surfing, sailing and coastal walks. Nearby, the La Geria wine region is well worth a visit, with vines grown in hand-dug volcanic craters that shelter them from the wind, a farming technique unique to Lanzarote. The surrounding landscape, marked by black volcanic soil and sparse vegetation, contrasts sharply with the blue of the Atlantic Ocean. Close to Lanzarote Airport, Tías makes a convenient base for exploring the island, including Timanfaya National Park. Local life remains largely geared towards beach tourism, though more traditional villages can still be found further inland.
