Cala Gonone

Cala Gonone is a coastal resort on the eastern shore of Sardinia, part of the municipality of Dorgali in the province of Nuoro. Once a small fishing village, it sits beneath limestone cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Orosei, known for its turquoise waters and coves largely reachable only by boat. From the small harbour, boat trips run to the well-known beaches of Cala Luna, Cala Sisine and Cala Mariolu, as well as to the Bue Marino cave, a notable sea cave carved into the rock. The area lies within the Gulf of Orosei and Gennargentu National Park, offering rugged hiking trails, including the demanding Selvaggio Blu route, popular among trekkers and climbers. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry in summer, draws most visitors between May and September. The village retains a small-scale fishing tradition and offers local cuisine based on fresh fish and Sardinian specialities. Cala Gonone serves as a convenient base for exploring the limestone landscapes and protected waters of this stretch of Sardinia's coastline.
