Klopeiner See

Klopeiner See, located in southern Carinthia close to the Slovenian border, is known as one of Austria's warmest lakes, with water temperatures reaching up to 28°C in summer. This natural lake, surrounded by forests and gentle hills, mainly draws visitors keen on swimming and watersports such as sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and diving. A path circles the lake, allowing it to be explored on foot or by bicycle, with open views across the wooded shoreline. The surrounding area, known as Unterkärnten, is also recognised for its vineyards and small wine producers, particularly around the nearby town of Völkermarkt. Klagenfurt, the regional capital, is roughly a thirty-minute drive away. The neighbouring Turnersee lake adds further watersport options to the area. The local economy relies largely on summer tourism, with facilities well suited to families and a quieter atmosphere outside the high season. The mild, sunny climate for much of the year supports outdoor pursuits ranging from hiking in the surrounding hills to relaxing by the water's edge.
