Velden am Wörthersee

Velden am Wörthersee is a resort town in southern Austria's Carinthia region, set on the western shore of Lake Wörthersee, well known for its unusually warm summer waters. The town is recognised for its lakeside promenade, lined with cafés and Belle Époque-style buildings, as well as for the Casino Velden and Schloss Velden, a former castle now operating as a luxury hotel. Velden serves as a popular base for swimming, sailing and paddleboarding, along with boat excursions across the lake that connect to nearby towns such as Pörtschach and Krumpendorf. Cycle paths circle the entire Wörthersee, offering views of the surrounding hills and wooded shoreline. Each spring, the town also hosts a car enthusiasts' gathering that draws visitors from across the region. Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, lies around twenty kilometres away.
