Heiligenblut

Heiligenblut am Großglockner is a mountain village in Carinthia, Austria, nestled at the foot of the Großglockner, the country's highest peak at 3,798 metres. The village is renowned for its pilgrimage church of St Vincent, whose slender spire stands out against a backdrop of snow-capped summits, creating one of the most photographed views in the Austrian Alps. Heiligenblut sits at the southern entrance to the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road, a scenic route linking Carinthia with Salzburg. In winter, the village is a popular ski resort, offering downhill runs suited to various skill levels and access to a glacier-linked ski area. In summer, it serves as a base for high-mountain hiking, including routes towards the Pasterze Glacier, Austria's largest glacier. Traditional architecture, timber chalets and an unspoilt natural setting within the Hohe Tauern National Park lend the village an authentic alpine atmosphere.
