Flachau

Flachau is a village in the Austrian state of Salzburg, located in the Pongau region at the foot of the Tauern mountain range and close to the Tauern motorway. It forms part of the Snow Space Salzburg ski area, linked with Wagrain and St. Johann im Pongau, which in turn belongs to the extensive Ski amadé network, one of Austria's largest ski regions. In winter, the resort offers slopes suited to all levels, modern lift systems, and areas designed for families and beginners, particularly around the Flachauwinkl sector. Reliable snow conditions, often supported by snow-making equipment, allow for an extended ski season. During summer, the area serves as a starting point for hiking and mountain biking, with trails leading up to surrounding alpine pastures and views of the Tauern peaks. The small Flachausee lake provides a pleasant spot for relaxation in the warmer months. The village retains a traditional alpine character, featuring timber chalets and architecture typical of the Salzburg region. Flachau makes a convenient base for exploring the Pongau area, combining mountain sports, nature and genuine Austrian rural charm.
