Bad Gastein

Bad Gastein is a spa and winter sports resort nestled in the Gastein Valley, in the heart of the Austrian Alps, within the state of Salzburg. The town is renowned for its central waterfall, the Gasteiner Wasserfall, which literally cuts through the village and forms a distinctive architectural and scenic feature. Bad Gastein flourished during the Belle Époque, an era still reflected in its historic hotel buildings, many of which are grand structures built into the mountainside. The town is also well known for its thermal springs and radon galleries, long used for therapeutic purposes, particularly in the treatment of rheumatic conditions. In winter, the resort forms part of the Ski amadé network, providing access to numerous interconnected pistes. In summer, the area becomes a popular base for mountain hiking, with a network of trails leading into the surrounding peaks.
