Nauders

Nauders is a village in the Austrian Tyrol, set at around 1,400 metres above sea level, close to the Reschen Pass and the tripoint where the borders of Austria, Italy and Switzerland meet. This alpine location makes it a convenient base for excursions into the Swiss Engadin and Italy's Val Venosta, home to Lake Reschen with its well-known submerged church tower. The village is overlooked by Naudersberg Castle, a former stronghold that reflects its history as a border post and trading route. In winter, Nauders is served by the Bergkastel ski area, reached by cable car, offering slopes for various ability levels along with cross-country skiing trails. In summer, the surrounding region provides an extensive network of hiking paths and mountain-bike routes through alpine meadows and larch woodland, with views towards the peaks of the neighbouring Stelvio National Park. The village retains a traditional Tyrolean character, with vernacular architecture and pastoral farming still shaping the landscape around it.
