Alpbach

Alpbach is a village in the Austrian Tyrol, located in the Alpbachtal valley, known for its traditional chalet-style architecture with wooden houses and flower-decked balconies, which earned it the title of Austria's most beautiful village in a competition held in 1983. Since 1945, the village has hosted the European Forum Alpbach each summer, an international conference dedicated to politics, economics and culture, which has helped raise its profile beyond Austria's borders. In winter, Alpbach forms part of the Skijuwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area, offering varied slopes and facilities suited to families as well as more experienced skiers. The Wiedersbergerhorn cable car provides access to alpine pastures and a network of hiking trails popular in summer, with views over the surrounding peaks. The village retains an authentic character, with its parish church and traditional farms still in operation. The region lends itself equally to active holidays and quieter stays, combining unspoilt nature with traditional Tyrolean village life.
