Gränna

Gränna is a small town in Jönköping County, Sweden, known for its typical 17th-century wooden architecture and its elevated position on the shores of Lake Vättern. The town is renowned for the traditional craft production of polkagris, a red-and-white striped rock candy, with several workshops still allowing visitors to watch the sweets being made from the main street. Gränna also serves as the departure point for ferries to the island of Visingsö, reached in around twenty minutes and popular for cycling, the ruins of Visingsborg Castle, and its unspoiled farmland scenery. The town keeps alive the memory of polar explorer S. A. Andrée, born locally, whose childhood home can be visited. The climate is temperate, with mild summers well suited to outdoor activities around the lake and colder winters.
