Belz

Belz is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany, situated along the Étel ria, a sheltered tidal inlet often described as a 'little sea'. The area is particularly known for the islet of Saint-Cado, linked to the mainland by a bridge, home to a Romanesque chapel tied to a local legend and offering fine views over the ria. Surrounded by salt marshes, sandbanks and calm waters, the setting is well suited to activities such as kayaking, sailing and shellfish gathering. Belz retains a rural, maritime character, with traditional hamlets and oyster farming still practised along the ria. The commune lies close to Auray and Lorient, giving easy access to the Atlantic coast beaches and the megalithic sites of Carnac. The temperate oceanic climate makes the area pleasant to visit year-round, with higher visitor numbers in summer. Belz therefore offers a peaceful base from which to explore the Morbihan coastline, combining unspoilt nature with Breton heritage, away from the busier seaside resorts.
