Kenmare

Kenmare is a small town in County Kerry, south-west Ireland, situated at the head of the Kenmare River estuary, where the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara meet. Laid out on a distinctive triangular plan in the 18th century, the town has retained its historic character, with colourful shopfronts lining its main streets. It is home to a prehistoric stone circle, one of the largest in the south-west of Ireland, offering a glimpse into the area's ancient past. Kenmare is also known for its lace-making heritage, developed in the 19th century by local nuns. The town serves as a popular starting point for walkers on the Kerry Way, as well as for boat trips across the bay, where seals and dolphins can often be spotted. Its proximity to Killarney National Park and the surrounding mountain passes makes it a convenient base for exploring the peninsula.
