Pielavesi

Pielavesi is a rural municipality in the North Savo region of central Finland, situated on the shores of the lake that shares its name, with a landscape shaped by numerous bays and wooded islets. The local economy has traditionally relied on agriculture, particularly grain and oat farming, giving Pielavesi a regional reputation for large-scale farms; the town regularly hosts a major agricultural exhibition (maatalousnäyttely), one of the largest of its kind in Finland. Forestry also plays a significant role, alongside hunting as a long-standing local activity. The northern continental climate brings long, snowy winters well suited to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, while summer offers good conditions for swimming, boating and fishing on Lake Pielavesi.
